Family Love
By Daniela Delvescovo

Movie Review of
Director: Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee
Cast: Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, Idina Menzel

“That's no blizzard, that's my sister!”
-    Anna

Disney’s Frozen will really warm your heart! It is a movie loosely based on the tale of The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Anderson, told with classic Disney animation and music. It follows two sisters, Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) and Elsa (voiced by Idina Manzel) as we watch how their unconditional love for each other – not a kiss from a prince – saves the day.

This film is rated PG for its action and mild rude humor, but there isn’t much of that. I believe it leans more toward a G rating and is great for literally all ages. I took my 4-year-old sister to the film and she loved it! I now have the CD soundtrack in my car, and we both sing along to the songs whenever we go out to run errands.
I’ve seen the movie three times so far, and really love it! Every time I watch it, I see something different. The movie moves me to laugh and yes, even cry, every time. I think this is because the story really resonated with me, since it was about two sisters. The plot and emotions that the characters undergo are so relatable and brought me back to different memories that my 14-year-old sister and I both share.

I think the reason this movie touched me so much is because of the message of unconditional love that runs through it. It is a message that we need to be teaching our children; love between family members is one of the strongest loves in the world.

Family is very important in our faith. This movie shows that even though your family, particularly your siblings, can get on your nerves, they will truly always be there for you. The love that family members share is much more important than that of a passing boyfriend (or Prince Charming). It is a love that lasts forever, and it is a love that God has supplied us with since birth.

“Tell me who admires and loves you, and I will tell you who you are.”
~ Antoine de Saint

Frozen can be used as a teaching tool to show that the love a family shares is meant to be one of the strongest loves God gives us.

Questions for youth groups, families, and other small group discussions (please feel free to post comments below):
  1. Where in the Bible does Jesus talk about family?
  2. Why is family so important?
  3. Is there someone in your family who is estranged from you? How can you show him or her the importance of family love?

Another good review. haven't seen the movie but have seen it advertised with trailers on TV and did look like a movie that could make one laugh. Another I'll have to add to me 'to see' in the future.
